Ultrafiltration water system is an advanced water purification process, where reclaimed water is forced through a semipermeable membrane. During the filtration process, suspended solids and high-molecular-weight solutes are retained on one side of the membrane, while water and low-molecular-weight solutes pass through the membrane to the permeate side.
The pore size of UF membranes ranges from 0.01 to 0.1 microns. The filtration range of ultrafiltration lies between microfiltration (MF) and nanofiltration (NF).
Ultrafiltration water system is commonly used to produce mineral water and spring water. Those system is pressure-driven processes that utilize the different pore sizes of ultrafiltration membranes to separate impurities from liquids.
Ultrafiltration system is primarily used to separate large molecules, colloids, and particles from small molecules such as solvents in a solution. Ultrafiltration water system filters most solid particles in liquids. However, UF filter smaller particles than microfiltration or standard activated carbon filter.
UF membrane removes impurities with particle size > 0.01μm. For reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), RO water purification systems are required.
