Avoid overfilling, as this can lead to clumping or bridging, which prevents the system from regenerating properly.

Cleaning And Preventing Salt Bridges
Over time, residue can accumulate at the bottom of the brine tank. A quick clean once or twice a year can help prevent blockages and ensure smooth operation. Empty the tank, wipe it down with warm water, and refill with fresh salt. Another common issue is a salt bridge, which occurs when a hard crust forms at the top of the tank. This can make the softener appear full, but water cannot reach the salt beneath the crust. Gently breaking up the crust with a broom handle or similar tool solves the problem.

Regular inspections help catch minor issues before they become major problems. Look for leaks, loose fittings, or unusual noises from the system. If your softener has an electronic display, make sure the settings and regeneration cycles are correct.
