Electrodeionization systems remove ions from aqueous solutions, sustainably producing ultrapure water. Reverse osmosis with electrodeionization (EDI) is an environmentally friendly deionized water solution.
EDI equipment combines electrodialysis and ion exchange technologies. Through the selective permeation of anions and cations by anion and cation exchange membranes and the ion exchange function of ion exchange resins, ions migrate in a directional manner under the action of a DC electric field, achieving the purpose of deep desalination of water. The ion exchange resins are regenerated by the H+ and OH- generated by water electrolysis, thereby continuously producing ultrapure water.

Our electrodeionization system integrates advanced membrane technology and ion exchange principles, delivering high-purity deionized water for diverse industrial needs. The system consists of multiple chambers filled with ion exchange resins and separated by ion exchange membranes-crafting a precise, efficient water purification solution.
When water enters the module, an electric field (perpendicular to the water flow direction) is applied, driving ions through the resins and membranes. Unlike traditional ion exchange methods, these impurity ions are not permanently adsorbed on the medium; instead, they are collected into the concentrate by the system, which can be either discharged or recycled-realizing eco-friendly and cost-effective operation.
The treated deionized water can be used directly or further processed to achieve higher purity, flexibly meeting your specific water quality requirements.

The EDI module functions as a self-regenerating ion exchange bed, continuously regenerated by the applied electric field. As ions pass through the resin and move between cation or anion-selective membranes, the EDI system exchanges H+ and OH- ions. This ensures that ions bound to the ion exchange resin eventually migrate to a separate chamber.
Driven by the external electric field, this separate chamber also generates the H+ and OH- ions needed to maintain the resin in a regenerated state, while ions in this chamber are flushed out by the system-ensuring long-term stable performance and eliminating the need for manual resin regeneration.

Compared with traditional ion exchange or RO systems, electrodeionization EDI systems have unique limitations: the purity of the produced water is mainly limited by the total number of ions adsorbed by the resin, and the maximum ion arrival rate restricts EDI performance. Excessively high ion load will lead to module overload.
To optimize performance and extend service life, we usually install electrodeionization EDI systems after RO systems. For water with high hardness, additional degassing treatment is adopted to remove carbon dioxide-ensuring optimal purification effect and system stability.
