The 'golden range' of EDI inlet water temperature

Just as coffee needs 85℃ water to extract its optimal flavor, EDI equipment also has its own "golden preference" for inlet water temperature. Extensive experimental verification has shown that 15-35℃ is the ideal operating temperature range for EDI modules. Within this temperature range, the conductivity of the ion exchange membrane, the exchange efficiency of the resin, and the solubility of the water all reach optimal levels.

Below 15℃: Resin activity decreases, and the resistivity of the produced water decreases.

Above 35℃: Membrane structure may be damaged, accelerating equipment aging.

Around 25℃: The overall performance of the equipment reaches its ideal state.

Three Major Consequences of Temperature Runaway: When the inlet water temperature exceeds the reasonable range, EDI equipment will experience various problems, much like a person who has been "frozen" or "suffering from heatstroke":

Low Temperature Alarm: When the water temperature is below 10℃, the resin exchange capacity drops sharply by more than 30%, and the produced water quality fails to meet standards.

High Temperature Crisis: When the water temperature exceeds 40℃, the membrane module may suffer irreversible damage, shortening its lifespan by 50%. %.

Energy Consumption Surge: For every 5°C deviation from the ideal temperature, equipment energy consumption increases by approximately 15%.

Practical Temperature Regulation Techniques: To address seasonal temperature changes, the following methods can be used to maintain the EDI equipment in optimal operating condition:

Summer Cooling: Install a plate heat exchanger on the inlet water pipe and use circulating cooling water for cooling.

Winter Insulation: Insulate the inlet water pipe to prevent the water temperature from dropping below 10°C.

Intelligent Monitoring: Install temperature sensors that automatically alarm when the water temperature approaches a critical value.

Source Control: Regulate the water temperature during the pretreatment stage to reduce the load on the EDI module.
